Immerse yourself in the primary jungle and visit a Huitoto maloca (Murui-Muinane), where you will learn about the fascinating process of mambe. This is a great opportunity to explore the jungle in one day. During the journey, you will hike through both secondary and primary rainforest, gradually entering deeper into the forest until reaching the maloca of the Murui people, where ancestral knowledge and traditions are still alive.
The tour starts at 9:00 am from Casa de las Palmas Hostel, located at Carrera 11 Calle 13-110 in Leticia, Amazonas, Colombia. From there, you will be transported by land to the Tacana River, situated eleven kilometers from Leticia. Then you will begin a guided hike of approximately two hours (4 km) through the jungle, eventually reaching a Huitoto maloca (traditional indigenous house).
Once at the maloca, you can rest while the guides prepare lunch following traditional customs. After the meal, you will have the opportunity to learn about the mambe process and understand the significance of the coca plant for the Huitoto ethnic group, deeply rooted in their ancestral tradition.
After learning about the mambe process and listening to the word of the muruí (the traditional knowledge shared by the elders), the journey continues with a return hike through the jungle along a different trail. This path leads back to the Tacana River, where transportation will be waiting to take you back to Leticia.
Note: Please be aware that the sequence of activities might be subject to change based on weather conditions or decisions made by the guides to ensure the best possible experience and safety

What to wear in the jungle tour?
Dress in comfortable clothes that you can wear during the tours, because you must bear in mind that in several of them are made long walks in the middle of the jungle. We recommend the use of long sleeve shirt and long pants to avoid insect bites. Avoid the use of leggings, as they do not provide as much protection in the jungle. Finally, in terms of clothing, avoid the use of black, since it can attract mosquitoes.
