On our expedition into the heart of the Amazon jungle, you will live an authentic survival experience guided by Ticuna natives. Walking through the lush primary forest, you will explore its wildlife and plants while learning traditional knowledge that connects travelers with nature.
The tour can be done in 4 or 5 days:
-
The 4-day option includes jungle hikes, camping, cultural workshops, and return to Leticia by private transport.
-
The 5-day option offers one extra night of camping and deeper jungle exploration, giving you more opportunities to spot wildlife in its natural habitat.
General Itinerary:
-
Days 1 to 3: Jungle hikes of 2–3 hours, wildlife and plant observation, night fishing or searching for glowing mushrooms, learning Ticuna traditions, and overnights in hammocks with mosquito nets at different jungle camps.
-
Day 4: Handicraft and painting workshop, optional walk to collect seasonal wild fruits, and lunch in the jungle. For those on the 4-day tour, this day ends with the final hike back to the road and transfer to Leticia (arrival between 2:00 and 5:00 pm).
-
Day 5 (optional): Extra day and night of deep jungle exploration, increasing the chances of spotting monkeys, birds, or other wildlife in their natural environment.
Special Option (available on both 4 and 5-day tours): Instead of the last night in camp, you can take a 5-hour jungle hike to the Ticuna community of Arara, where you’ll share with the locals and experience their way of life.
-
During the rainy season (January to June), the return to Leticia is by boat on the Amazon River.
-
During the dry season (July to December), the return is on foot back to the road, where private transport will take you safely to Leticia.
Note: Please be aware that the sequence of activities might be subject to change based on weather conditions or decisions made by the guides to ensure the best possible experience and safety.
How to Pack for the Deep Jungle Tour
Packing light will make your Amazon adventure much more enjoyable. For the Deep Jungle Tour, we recommend bringing a 30–40 liter backpack, which is large enough to carry everything you’ll need during the expedition.
Your backpack will also need to carry the hammock, mosquito net, and blanket that we provide at the beginning of the tour. This package measures approximately 30 × 30 cm (12 × 12 in), weighs about 500 grams (1.1 lb), and can be compressed to save space.
If you’re traveling with a larger suitcase, you can store it free of charge in a locker at Casa de las Palmas Hostel until you return.
What to Bring
Pack clothing for 4 or 5 days, depending on the tour you have booked. Lightweight, quick-drying clothing is the best choice.
For jungle hikes, we recommend long pants and long-sleeved shirts. Choose light or neutral colors and avoid black clothing, as it attracts more mosquitoes and absorbs more heat. Loose-fitting clothing is also more comfortable and offers better protection than tight-fitting clothes.
Don’t forget to bring:
- A reusable water bottle.
- One comfortable outfit for sleeping.
- Swimwear.
- Insect repellent.
- A flashlight or headlamp.
- Sandals.
- A rain poncho.
- A quick-dry towel.
- Personal toiletries and medications.
We also recommend bringing a dry bag or waterproof bag to protect your electronics during rain or boat trips.
Jungle Boots
There is no need to bring hiking boots. We provide rubber boots, the best footwear for hiking in the tropical rainforest.
Travel light and enjoy more. The less weight you carry, the more comfortable your Amazon adventure will be.
